SUNRAY - John E. Osborn, 83, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Dallas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sunray Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Canada, Baptist minister of Vernon, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Mr. Osborn was born Dec. 18, 1918, in Tell. He was a Moore County resident for 50 years. He was a member of Sunray Baptist Church. He married Bernice on Aug. 8, 1942, in Sayre, Okla. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1946 and received his master's in 1952.

He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II at Perrin Field in Sherman. A longtime educator, he began his career at Wheeler from 1946 to 1948. They spent five years in Folsom, N.M., before moving to Moore County in 1951.

He taught at Skelly before becoming principal and counselor at Sunray Independent School District from 1959 to 1981. After his retirement, he became representative for Teacher Retirement Association. The love of his students made his career one of joy and fulfillment.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and his brothers and sisters, Miriam Carperton, Oma Byrnes, Alma Dutton, Ima Duncan, W.C. "Dub" Osborn and Georgia Coury.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Reed of Paducah and Starla Willis of Dallas; two sisters, Bessie Litrell of Dumas and Mary McBroom of Canyon; and five grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Michael, Katelin and Abby.

The family suggests memorials be to Bobcat Scholarship, Attn: Sandy Stavlo, P.O. Box 240, Sunray, TX 79086; or American Cancer Society, 211 Zauk St., Dumas, TX 79029.

The family will be at 1005 Highway Ave. in Sunray.
