George Edward "Ed" Ryman was born on May 11, 1886 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of George Edward Ryman Sr (1862–1907) and Elizabeth R "Lizzie" (Oliger) Ryman. Ed's parents were married in 1885.}

Ed was married about 1911 to Carrie Lee Vick (1894–1947), and she was the daughter of James Jones Vick (1852–1905) and Dovie Elizabeth (Cole) Vick (1864–1937).

A retired Nashville City Workhouse guard for 15 years and later an employee of American Dry Cleaners, he retired abut 1956. Living at 1620 East Side Avenue, George was 77 years old and a widower when he had a subarchnoid hemorrhage and died on October 10, 1963 at Nashville General Hospital.

Survivors included his daughter Mrs Mary Ryman Johnson of Granville, Tennessee, sisters Mrs Hugh E Thomson at Nashville and Mrs W G Seat in Madison, Tennessee, grandson Paul Ryman of Nashville and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on October 12th at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, with the minister of Russell Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
