Maxine Gleason Dobrin passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2006. She was born in Waterloo to the late Max LeGrand and Leila Freeman Gleason. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Milton B. Dobrin of Houston, Texas; and her sister, Leanne (James) Smittkamp of Cedar Rapids. She is survived by her sisters, Marie (Dean) Andersen of Iowa City and Margaret (Lawrence) Skromme of Lancaster, Pa.; her brother, Beal (Rodean) Gleason of Lovington, N.M.; and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Maxine was an active docent at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, and the Heritage Society, both in Houston.

My aunt, Maxine Gleason Dobrin, died at my home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, not in Houston, Texas. Per her instructions to our family, we buried her ashes in two cemeteries 1) Emanu El Memorial Park, Houston, Texas; next to her husband, Dr. Milton B. Dobrin. 2) Oakland Cemetery in Janesville, Bremer County, Iowa next to her grandparents Stuart Freeman & Della Pleasant Garton Freeman.
