Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Don Ashley officiating. Burial follows in Pyles Cemetery. The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Born July 17, 1935, in Celeste to Johnny Leonard and Eva Lorine Spradlin Ashley, he married Doris Jean Garrison July 15, 1954, in Paris. He worked for Weyerhaeuser Paper Company for several years prior to his retirement. He served in the National Guard and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Lee Ashley; his parents; and one brother, Kenneth Ashley.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Ashley of Powderly; three children, Deborah Smith and husband, Ronnie, of Powderly, Jeff Ashley and wife, Susan, of Elysian Fields and Paula Moses and husband, Steve, of Kilgore; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Holley, Brooke Smith, Brandon Smith. all of Powderly, Michael Ashley, Kathy Ashley, both of Elysian Fields, Patty Rushin of Powderly, Jeremy, Jamie, Steven, Josh, and Jason Moses of Kilgore; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harlan Ray Ashley of Garland; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Garrison of Powderly; a sister-in-law, Kay Ashley of Paragould, Ark.; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Named pallbearers are Jeremy, Jamie, Steven, Josh and Jason Moses, Brandon Smith and Michael Ashley.
