WEST MILTON -- Lee Shaffer Confer, 82, of 627 High St., West Milton, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Kramm Healthcare Center, Milton.
Born in West Milton, on Jan. 1, 1925, he was a son of the late William B. and Prudence E. (Shaffer) Confer. He was married for almost 39 years to the former Erma L. Parks, who survives.
Mr. Confer graduated from Milton High School in 1943, and from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. in 1950.
He was a correction officer with the federal prison system, retiring in 1972 from the Allenwood Prison.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Confer served in the Army in the European Theater.
He was a member of West Milton United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and secretary of the trustees; a member of the Milton Elks, Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, F&AM #256 in Milton, Sunbury Shrine, Irem Temple and Williamsport Consistory, and was a volunteer with the West Milton Community Park Association.
He played football at Milton, in college, and with the AFL team the Bethlehem Bulldogs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time at the Arrowhead Restaurant.
He taught special-needs children to swim and volunteered with the Head Start program.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five stepgrandchildren, two of whom, Eric S. Hill, of New Columbia, and Heather L. Smith, of Mifflinburg, he raised; Rick Lansberry, of Clearfield; Michael Lansberry, of Lancaster; and Terry Ramsey, of Hyde City; one stepson David A. Lansberry and companion Lucy Marlow, of Georgia; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Rodney Robinson Jr., Brittany Robinson and Tyler Hill.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Paulette D. Hill, and one brother, William Confer.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the West Milton United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. John E. Lee. Interment with military honors will be in the Elimsport Cemetery.
Friends and relatives will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a Masonic service held close to 1.
Memorials in Lee's memory may be made to the West Milton United Methodist Church, 148 Jean Blvd., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
