Harold Sorey Drowns Sunday

Strikes Head on Rock When Diving In a Lake Near Perry.

Harold Sorey, the 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Sorey, was drowned Sunday, when swimming in a lake near Perry. He dived off a stump and struck his head on a rock. The boys who were with him ran for help, but when he was taken out of the water, the doctors could not revive him.

He was buried in Newkirk Cemetery Wednesday morning. The services were held at the Christian church, at 10 o'clock, the Rev. D.H. Lindsay conducting them. The Christian Endeavor, of which Harold Sorey was a member, furnished the music and the boys from the Endeavor were pallbearers.

Harold Sorey was born in Newkirk December 20, 1899. He completed his sophmore year in high school this spring and went to Perry to be a printer on the Perry Republican. He had formerly worked on the Newkirk Republican News Journal.

With some companions, young Sorey went swimming in a lake near Perry about 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. After the accident occurred his body was brought to Newkirk. His parents were in Winfield at the time, but came home as soon as they were notified. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Miss Helen, two brothers, Howard and Russell.
