Son of Luther and Anna N. Cameron Morgan; married/divorced Susannah H. Shidell; Sept. 25, 1823 married Ann A. Higgins (March 20, 1805 born in Fayette County, Tenn.) at Huntsville, Ala. 1827 after a business failure at Huntsville, Ala. moved to Lexington, Ky. where he farmed; 1831 appointed postmaster at Leavenworth, Kansas; 1837 joined U. S. Army and as col. commanded a battalion of Missouri volunteers called "Morgan's Spies" during the Seminole War; after war moved back to Lexington; member of Co. K, 1st Ky. Cavalry Rgt. And refused a commission to fulfill a promise he made to his twin brother to protect his nephews Calvin and John; Feb. 23, 1847 killed at Buena Vista as a result of a lance through his heart; monument in Lexington Cemetery; his widow served as matron of East Kentucky Lunatic Asylum until her death on March 6, 1882; Children: (first marriage) Susannah L. Morgan, 1822 born; second marriage Alexander G. Morgan II, April 2, 1832 born at Lexington, Ky.
