EAST SPRINGFIELD — Mr. Robert A. Bridger Sr., 78, of 281 Continental Road, Cooperstown, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
He was born Feb. 26, 1924, in the town of Middlefield, the son of Floyd and Ida (Thayer) Bridger.
In 1945, he married Shirley Salisbury; she survives.
Mr. Bridger attended Cooperstown schools.
He owned and operated Genter Farms, his family dairy farm in East Springfield.
He was a member of Farm Bureau, Dairylea, Extension Service, Holstein Association, VanHornesville Co-op and the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield.
He served for 10 years on the school board for Springfield Central School.
Survivors besides his wife, Shirley Bridger, of East Springfield; include two sons, Richard Bridger of Milford and Gary Bridger of East Springfield; two daughters, Mary and Ray Roberts of Springfield Center and Sharon and Ken Smith of Fort Plain; a daughter- in-law, Barbara Bridger of Springfield Center; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Sara Bridger of Verona; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Milton Hart of Berne and Beverly and Arthur Blessin of Fly Creek; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Jo Anne Herklotz; a son, Robert Bridger Jr.; a grandson, Mark Willoughby; two brothers, Norman and Raymond; and four sisters, Dorothy Van Brink, Helen Fink, Thelma Winner and Dora Gardner.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in East Springfield, with the Rev. Susan Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery in Springfield Center.
Contributions in Mr. Bridger's memory may be made to the Springfield First Responders, P.O. Box 358, Springfield Center, NY 13468 or Cherry Valley Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 504, Cherry Valley, NY 13320.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home of Cherry Valley.
