LONGTON -- George Austin Royse, 88, longtime resident of Longton, died Sept. 24, 2002, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Longton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. A memorial has been established with the Longton United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Royse was born March 2, 1914, in Hooker, Okla., to Ethel Pearl (Small) and Fred Eugene Royse. He attended rural school near Hooker before moving to the Elk Falls area with his family in 1924.
On May 10, 1938, he married Mable Grace Sprague in Sedan. Royse was a farmer and stockman in the Longton and Elk City area most of his life. His wife died June 7, 1980. On Feb. 22, 1982, Royse married Ruth Osborn in Springfield, Colo. They made their home on a farm northwest of Elk City until moving to Longton in 1987. Royse had been a resident at the nursing home since January. He was a longtime member of the Longton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Royse, Longton; three daughters, Jean Elda Miller, Lee's Summit, Mo., Mildred Beiter, Coffeyville, and Ethel Holloway, Elkhart, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Lyneva Bryan, Herington; a sister, Edith Sprague, Shawnee; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
