Goldie Nelson Bryce was born to Christian and Janette Brownfield Nelson on Aug. 2, 1912 at Spencer NE. She was the second youngest of 14 children.
She passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Bloomfield where she had been a resident since 2000.
Goldie graduated from Spencer High School in 1930. After graduation she went to stay with her brother, Oscar Nelson, who lived in the Lindy area.
It was here that she met Clyde Bryce. They were married Aug. 31, 1942.
Clyde and Goldie lived down in the Devils Nest until 1960 when Clydes failing health forced them to move to Bloomfield. This was the first time Goldie had access to any modern conveniences, mainly electricity and indoor plumbing. Goldie cooked many meals on a cook stove. Her bread and homemade pies were of blue ribbon quality.
Goldie loved the nest as she called it and enjoyed the peace and tranquility there. She enjoyed checking the cattle on her horse, Blaze, along with their dog, Sheppy. Goldie loved horses and dogs. Santa Claus gave her a horse calendar this past year and she always enjoyed the new month with the new pictures of the horses.
Goldie loved working in her garden and you could always find her in the strawberry patch when they were ripe. You could just about bet she would take a strawberry sundae whenever it was available.
Goldie will be remembered for her quick wit and for being a tenacious card player. We all learned she would not let you win; you would have to earn the win yourself.
Goldie was fair and honest, loving and wise. She was one to always set a good example.
After Clydes death in 1972, Goldie worked at the Good Samaritan Center for a time. She also cared for her brother Alfred when his health failed.
Her church meant lot to her. She was a member of the UMMW. She had been a member of the Degree of Honor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elmer, Alfred, Oscar, Karl and Roy and her sisters, Clara Anderson, Elsie Shoenberner, Florence Nelson and Amelia Koehn and two sets of twins who died in infancy.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and many friends.
