PATRICK F. McCARTAN III (46), son of Lois and Patrick F. McCartan, died suddenly in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts and the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, he was a presidential intern, serving in that capacity in both the Department of Defense and on the Staff of the United States Senate. At the time of his death, he was a member of the White House Office of Science and Technology. Besides his parents, he leaves his sister, Karen McCartan DeSantis, her husband, Victor J. DeSantis, and two nephews, Michael and Thomas DeSantis, of Bethesda, Maryland. Services will be private in Washington, D.C.
