Bert was the oldest son of Mr. John Thomas and Mrs. Miriam Ellen Sloan Bright. He was murdered and his body was not found until 6 mos later at an old military establishment. His father had to identify his beloved sons remains and dental records assured the family that this was Bert.
He was just graduated from High School and had drawn his first paycheck. He was so proud. His family and he had come from church and he told them he was going just a short distance to a video games center and would be back in time for evening service. He never came back and His mother and dad went immediately to the police but because of Berts age they said they had to wait 48 hrs. His mother explained that her son would never just up and leave without contacting them, this was not like him. Eventually an apb was put out and a lady on the otherside of Duval County said she saw a car in the woods in back of her house that met the description of his car. Police went out and it was established that this was Berts car. It had been stripped down and liquor bottles was in it and the inside was torn up.
Bert kept his car spotless. This was his pride. To make a long story short after many months his body was found and it was determined that he had been shot two times in the head and once in the chest.
He was a quiet fellow that never gave anyone any trouble, the only thing the police could say was that someone had flagged him down and took his money and stripped his car.
His assailants were never caught and probably never will be.
But we know that God knows who they are and they will be judged.
He was survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. John T Bright, His brothers, Joseph and Tommy, his sister Amanda and lots of Uncles, Aunts and Cousins who loved him dearly.
We know that he is now in heaven and one day we will see him again and justice will be done.
