Dorothy Cornell Oliver, 91, widow of Judge George E. Oliver, died September 29, 2009 at her new residence in Buckingham South. The daughter of the late John Joy and Lucile FitzSimons Cornell, Dorothy was born in Savannah on July 10, 1918 and spent her lifetime in Savannah and Tybee Island. She was preceded in death by her sisters Alice Cornell Brookshaw and Vivian Evans Baggs, and her brothers John Joy Cornell, Jr. and Louis FitzSimons Cornell. She is survived by two sisters, twin Lucile Rentz Lott of Waycross, GA and Virginia Cornell Aldrich of Melbourne , FL Dorothy was a lifelong member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church where she served a number of years in the Sunday School Department. She was a graduate of Savannah High School, and worked at the Industrial Savings and Loan and the Meir-Berkle Jewellery Store. She was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of Warren Chandler Hospital, where she served for more than four decades as a Pink Lady. She and then Lieutenant Oliver, US Coast Guard, began their sixty year marriage in San Francisco on May 31, 1944. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her attention to detail, her love of card games and word games, and sharing Tybee Island beach life for more than 70 years with her family. She will be sorely missed by the large group of nieces and nephews who cherish happy memories of good times at her beach home at Tybee Island: Valjean B. Brookshaw, Lucile Brookshaw, Rosalie Brookshaw North, Pauline J. Cornell Duke, Joy Cornell Swiecki, Cynthia Cornell Gammage, William H. Rentz, Jr., John Cornell Rentz, James H. Aldrich, Jr., Robert C. Aldrich, Virginia Aldrich South, Penny Kwilecki, Betty Grace Sport, Robert Baggs. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at Bonaventure Cemetery with Rev. M. Creede Hinshaw and Dr. A. Jason Shirah officiating.
