The remains of Ernest Tribble, who died overseas, arrived in Montrose Tuesday, July 26th, and were taken to his home. The funeral was held at Bear Creek Chapel Wednesday, July 27th, and interment in the cemetery nearby. He was born Feb. 5, 1894 and died in a hospital in France, Oct. 4, 1918, aged 24 years and 8 months. He enlisted in old Co. F in Clinton, Mo., in August 1917; was in camp there two weeks, then sent to Nevada where the company remained several weeks; thence to Camp Doniphan, Oklahoma, where the company was made a machine gun company, be being assigned gunner, and on March 12, 1918, was promoted to corporal. He set said for France May 2, 1918, and arrived in England May 14th. His first battle was July 4, 1918. From that time on was in many bloody battles. He was in the Argonne drive where he contracted pneumonia, but never gave up until relieved on October 3rd at 4 p.m. when he was taken to hospital 9, where he lived but a few hours. Death came as a relief at 4 a.m. on October 4th. He died a hero; fought till death claimed him. He leaves to mourn his death, his devoted parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Tribble, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and a host of friends. Ernest did not belong to any church, but in letters to his parents confirmed to them that all was well with him. He was a boy thoughtful of father and mother. They came first in all things."
