Charles was born on 12 January 1898 in the District of Columbia to Charles William and Ada Marie Dalzell Cornwell. In 1900, he was listed in the census along with his parents and six-year-old sister, Mildred E. PFC Charles Raymond Cornwell served during WWI in France with the 318th Field Hospital, 305th Sanitary Train, of the 80th Division. (ref: 318th Field Hospital History) He enlisted on April 10, 1918. In the 1920 census, he was a 22 year old single man living on Walnut Street in Philadelphia and working as a salesman for Armour Company.

By 1930, he was married to Dorothy Berry Cornwell and was living at 107 Lansdowne Court in Lansdowne, PA. On 15 March 1934, he applied for and received Veteran's compensation for his 14 months of Army service.

By 1940, Charles is a salesman for frozen foods earning $2,600. His parents are also living in his home.

Charles died on 3 August 1951 at him home in Delaware Co, PA from a coronary occlusion. The Burial date was Aug 6, 1951, Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Delaware Coounty, PA.
