Her daughter Cora had a child, Ruth, out of wedlock. Cora left her daughter at a young age with her mother and traveled around the country. Ruth's fondest memories were of the many years she spent being raised by her 'Mawie' (as Ruth called Mary).
Mary died of cancer on 9 Oct 1935 and was buried at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Marceline, Missouri.
