Larry Arthur Cordes departed this life on September 25,2009 at Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas at the age of 65 years and 5 months. Larry was born April 25, 1944 to Albert and Irene (Dunham) Cordes at his grandparents house in Meade, Kansas. He was baptized on June 18, 1944 in St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, Kansas by the Rev. Homer H. Kurth. Larry's sponsors were Emil Cordes and Thelma Miller. Larry was confirmed and received into communicant membership with St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, Kansas on May 25, 1958 by the Rev. Eugene Knoppel. Larry remained a member of St. John Lutheran Church until his death. Larry attended country school until the fourth grade when the family moved to Meade; there he attended and graduated from the Meade School system in May of 1962.

Larry was joined in marriage to Carol Bergkamp on February 8, 1964 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fowler, Kansas. The couple took up residence in Meade and Larry worked at Klein's Skelly Service. In 1965, the couple moved to Denver, Colrado for six months and then moved to Ventura, California for two and a half years where Larry worked for Buena Engineering. In 1968 the couple moved back to Meade and Larry worked at Bunge Elevator in Missler, Kansas. The couple opened and ran The Blossom Shop in Meade for thirteen years and then moved back to California for six months to assist Larry's brother Earl in his time with cancer. They then moved back to Meade and Larry went to work for the Meade County Appraiser's Office, where he worked for twenty-three years and was in the process of full time retirement. Larry was a member of Kansas County Appraisers Association. Larry and Carol also renovated and managed a number of rental properties. Larry enjoyed his grandkids, fishing, hunting and playing pool.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Earl Cordes. He is survived by his wife Carol of the home; his son Matt and his wife Angie of Ford, Kansas; his daughter Cindy and her husband Mitch Brenner of Meade, Kansas; his grandchildren, Molly and Mason Brenner of Meade, Kansas, Garrett Dow of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Ethan and Tanner Dow of Ford, Kansas; his sisters, Kathleen Ross of Meade, Kansas, Nona Gay Newman of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary Arrington of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

Committal of the cremains will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery, Meade, Kansas and then later at a private gathering at the Graham Land hunting area.
