Walker Adkisson, my great-grandfather, was born in Kring Hollow in the Coal Hill Road community near Coalfield, Tennessee. He was the son of William and Louisa (Butler) Adkisson and the grandson of James and Catharine (McCabe) Adkisson and Elias and Elizabeth (Winters) Butler. He and my great-grandmother, Artelia Davis, were married on September 28, 1890, in Coalfield (at her parents' home in the Fairview Road area) and had the following children: 1) Eunice M. Adkisson (1891-1904); 2) Bertie Mae (Adkisson) Poarch (1893-1978); 3) Nina Geneva Adkisson (1895-1918); 4) Victor Jennings Adkisson (1900-1977); 5) Glenna Mae (Adkisson) Haynes/King (1903-1996); 6) Aubrey Ralph "Ralph A." Adkisson (1906-1996); 7) Meredith Davis Adkisson (1912-1918); and 8) Nedra Helen (Adkisson) Bunch (1915-1981). My great-grandparents also lost a stillborn daughter, Viola, and triplets who were born between 1896-1900. All children are buried in the Davis Cemetery in Coalfield except for Bertie and Ralph. She is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he is entombed at Palm Valley View Memorial Park in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"ADKISSON, WALTER [WALKER]--age 82, died at the family home at Coalfield Nov. 8. He is survived by his wife, Artelia Adkisson; two sons, Ralph of San Francisco, Calif., Victor of Coalfield, Tenn.; three daughters, Mrs. H. H. Poarch of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Freeman Bunch of Hiawatha, Utah, Mrs. Carl Hayes [Haynes] of Graysville, Tenn.; also five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the Seventh Day [Seventh-day] Adventist Church at Coalfield, Tenn., Wednesday at 11 a.m., conducted by the pastor, B. W. Lighthall. Interment in the Davis Cemetery, Coalfield, Tenn. Booth of Oliver Springs in charge."
