Obituary

Miranda Filer (sic) was born in Bond County, Illinois, May 26, 1845 and died at her home in Hardy Oct. 2, 1921, aged 76 years, 4 months and 6 days.

On April 13, 1862 she was married to John Brown in Illinois, and four children were born to this union, Simon J., Jake I., William and Mattie. The husband and father died June 1, 1872.

The deceased was married to J.I. Craig of Madison County, Illinois, on February 18, 1874, and four children were born to this union Mrs. C.F. Bradford, Mrs. M.T. Forsythe, J.H. Craig and Mrs. C.D. Wade. They came to Kansas in 1878 and located on a farm near Scandia. They removed to Hardy in 1885 and have lived here until her deceased.

Mrs. Craig has been a christian most of her life having joined the Baptist Church at Pocahontos (sic), Ill. in her 17th year. She remained faithful in her church and in her last illness enjoyed the hymns of her former years. She was a good mother, companion, and neighbor and gave much comfort and help to those around her. She suffered much since last February, but her passing was peaceful and the reward sure. One by one our friends are passing away.

Funeral services were held at the home, by Rev. Maxcy, Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Hardy cemetery (sic).
