Buried with name only no dates. Story goes that during the war metal was precious and people would steal it off the tombstones and sell it.

James Robert McMurry was born Mar 3, 1835 in Morgan Co., AL to Robert P McMurry and Minerva Byars. (his Byars line connects back to Peter Brown of the Mayflower).
He is listed in the 1850 Blount Co AL census with his parents.
He married Martha Ann Martin 06 Jan 1860 in Blount Co AL.
They are on the 1860 & 1870 Blount Co AL census. They appear on the 1880 Cullman Co AL census as where they resided became Cullman Co in 1877.

On 22 Sep 1861 James enlisted as Corporal in Capt Duncan Dew's Co B 29th AL Infantry CSA.

To this union 8 children were born: (all Blount Co AL)
1) Minerva b 1861 (recorded on 1862 Blount Co AL CSA census- died before 1870)
2) John William "Will" b 29 July 1865 (never married)
3) Alabama "Allie" b Aug 1868 m Benjamin Wesley Tedder

5) Richard Wiley b 05 Aug 1871 m Annie Jane Beaty

By 1894 all except Richard moved West to Texas first to Hill & Johnson Cos then in 1900 Census they are found in Magnum Township in Greer Co OK. In his obituary it states he moved to Gray Co OK ca 1909 but they are found in the Ochiltree Co TX census in 1910. James Robert McMurry Jr died in Gray Co OK. (see obit below)

Beaver County Republican Friday Sep 5, 1913 Obituary of James McMurry James McMurray was born in Maringo County, Alabama, March 3, 1835, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs B W Tedder, near Gray, August 22,1913, aged 78 years 5 months and 19 days. He had been a member of the Baptist church for thirty-six years and a Decon in the church for thirty years. He had been blind for the last ten years. He came west in 1894 and to Beaver county in 1909. He was stricken with a stroke of parsipsis on Sunday morning August 17 and died Friday evening August 22, at 10 o'clock. He leaves an aged wife and six children to mourn his death 05 Sep 1913 Beaver Co., OK
