Dorothy L. Turner, age 93, of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, February 6, 2017, at Golden Living Centers/Golden Rule.
Born January 30, 1924, in Centerville, Indiana, to Cecil and Bessie Davison Bane, Dorothy was a 1942 graduate of Richmond High School. She ran a lathe at Perfect Circle, worked at Decca Records, and retired from JC Penney after more than 25 years of service, having worked downtown and at the mall. Dorothy was a member of Faith-Trinity United Methodist Church and attended Fountain City Wesleyan Church. She was a member of Elks Lodge of Dunkirk, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Richmond Senior Center, and the Whitewater Ballroom Dance Club. Dorothy was known for her pies. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Dr. Michael (Rise') Turner of Sandy, Utah, Gary (Elaine) Turner of Richmond, and Dennis (Cathleen) Turner of Springfield, Virginia; six grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Barnes of Indianapolis, Indiana, Devin Turner of Sandy, Utah, Greg (Sarah) Turner of Richmond, Melissa Turner of Ashburn, Virginia, Jerome (Greyson) Turner of Richmond, Virginia, and Jessica (Ryan) Rapp of Denver, Colorado; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Jenkins of Richmond; brother, Robert (Fabbie) Bane of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy J. Turner, who died on March 1, 1994; parents; sisters, Zola Abner, Elizabeth "Tibby" Rosser, Sue Walters, Juanita McFarland, Jean Miller, and Virginia "Tiny" McClellan; and brothers, Marvin, Carl, Willard, Ervin, Ronald, and Roy "Buddy" Bane.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Gardens at Golden Living Centers/Golden Rule for their compassionate care in going above and beyond for Dorothy.
Visitation for Dorothy L. Turner will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery.
