Woodrow French, 17, Hamlin high school senior, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. French of Tuxedo, was killed by the accidental discharge of a shotgun while he and two of his brothers were hunting on a tank near Tuxedo Sunday afternoon. The gun was in the hands of A.J. French, Jr., 12, brother of Woodrow.
Funeral was held at the Methodist church at Tuxedo Monday afternoon conducted by pastor, Rev. Eugene Naugle of Anson
Surviving: parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. French; five brothers – Varl French, Karal French, Andy French, Jack French, and A.J. French, Jr.; one sister - Miss Mildred French.

According to his birth certificate, he was born in 1915. According to his death certificate he was born in 1916. His headstone indicates he was born in 1914. Both the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Federal Census seem to support the 1915 birthdate.
