Harold L. LaFonte, 71, of Caruthersville, died Thursday at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 18, 1914 in Portageville, he was the son of Charlie and Rose Billedaux LaFont. He was a retired farmer, a two-term Caruthersville municipal judge and a member of Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church, the Caruthersville Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Caruthersville mayor in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Eloise Rowland LaFonte of Caruthersville; One son, Harold Wayne LaFonte of Birmingham; One daughter, Mrs. Lana Thompson of Birmingham; Two stepsons, Levin and Lan Rowland Letner, both of Caruthersville; Two stepdaughter's Mrs. Linda Rice of Nesbit, Miss., and Mrs. Lisa Young of Caruthersville; One brother, James G. "Buddy" LaFont of Lincoln, Neb.; Two sisters, Mrs. Helen Ellis of Mumford, Tenn. and Mrs. Betty Floriman of Millington, Tenn.; And two grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church, the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating, with burial in Little Prairie Cemetery, Dean Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.
