Watt Snuggs was the Chief of Police in Norwood, North Carolina. He died in the line of duty at age 47. Chief Snuggs was trying to break up a brawl in front of the Norwood Drug Store involving several men and three brothers. While trying to restore order, one of the brothers shot him in his right side. The same man who he had arrested six months earlier, who was resisting arrest, and attacked Chief Snuggs with a beer bottle, severely wounding Chief Snuggs on the head. After the man's trial for the assault on Chief Snuggs, he told people he'd get that Chief Snuggs if he ever got the chance. After being shot, Chief Snuggs had to wait on the train to take him to the hospital. He died from his wounds en route to the hospital. The suspect was eventually arrested, convicted of murder and sent to prison. Months later, that convicted Felon escaped from prison by sliding down a storm drain. He was never recaptured. Chief Snuggs was survived by his wife and nine children.
