Funeral services for Donald W. Calvert, 70, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Pastor Frankie Santiago, of the Life House Assembly of God Church officiating. Jamie Wallace will assist with the service.

Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:30-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at McCoy Funeral Home.

Don was born on March 22, 1939, and raised in Hermleigh, TX. He passed away on Sept. 23, 2009, in Sweetwater, TX.

He graduated from Hermleigh High School, where he played football and basketball. After graduation, he joined Texas Electric, in 1958, as a crew helper at the Snyder Service Center. He transferred to Sweetwater as a first class lineman, in 1967, and became a lead linesman in 1976. He retired as a lineman supervisor, in 1994.

Don married Patsy Osteen Edwards on July 12, 1968. He raised her two children, Ronny and Rhonda, and was a wonderful dad to them. Don loved to hunt, fish and be with his closest friends and family. He recently accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was ready to meet with Him.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie "Son" and Marie Calvert and brothers Larry and Carroll Calvert.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Calvert of the home; his daughter Rhonda Zimmerman of El Paso, TX; his son Ronny Edwards and wife Susan Edwards of Lubbock, TX; sons Darrell Calvert and David Calvert; grandchildren MacKenzie Zimmerman of Flagstaff, AZ; Payton Zimmerman of Tuscan, AZ; and Sarah and Zachary Edwards of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by his brothers Gary Calvert and wife Glenda of Eufaula, OK and Jackie Calvert of Ft. Worth, TX; his sister Linda Tarbik of Brentwood Lane, CA; nephew Charlie Calvert of Denham Springs, LA; niece Debbie Calvert of Big Springs,TX.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Payton Zimmerman and Zachary Edwards; Tony Palma, Basil Staggs, Laverl Stephens and Charlie Calvert.

Honorary pallbearer will be M.T. Wilkinson.

Services are under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
