Services Held Sunday For Mrs. J. A. Long

Mrs. Mary Ella Long passed away at the local hospital on Thursday, January 5, at 10:10 p.m. following a coronary illness of only two days.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the First Methodist Church, with Rev. Arthur E. Grimes of McKinney and the Rev. P. E. Hawkins of Austin, both Christian pastors, and the Rev. Walter J. Cartwright, pastor of the First Methodist Church here officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Active pall bearers were C. B. Maynard, G. B. Mack, W. J. Rogers, Dr. R. W. Loveless, Henry Schuyler, Earl Denson, N. R. Simpson and Earl Corson. Honorary pall bearers included W. T. Browning, E. R. Elkins and Quincy Wilson of Yoakum, J. W. Porter of Houston and Dr. J. G. Bryson, Earl C. Erhard, J. V. Ash Sr., Oren Eskew, Harris Koch, B. B. May, Clyde Reynolds, Jas. P. Wood, Tom Griffin, Fred Haynie, and Charlie Miller, all of Bastrop.

Born in Leesville, Gonzales County, on January 6, 1887, Mrs. Long was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. H. O'Neill. She was married to J. A. Long in Gonzales County on November 19, 1902. A devout member of the First Christian Church, she devoted her life to being a housewife and mother, rearing a large family.

She came with her husband to Bastrop County to make their home in 1940, and became an active member of the Women's Christian Fellowship of the First Christian Church here. Mr. Long preceded her in death several years ago.

Surviving are her five sons, Amos J. Long of Yoakum, Ernest Long of Yoakum and Cecil, C. A. and Adren Long, all of Bastrop; one daughter, Miss Dorothy Mae Long of Austin; Four sisters, Mrs. Lora Butler and Mrs. Myrtle McGrew of Yoakum, Mrs Estelle McGrew of San Antonio and Mrs. Maude Clifton of Austin; three brothers, John O'Neill and Clifton O'Neill of Yoakum, and Isaac O'Neill of Leesville.

Also surviving her are nine grandchildren, Mrs Ernie Brant, A. J. Long, Jim Long, Barbara Long, Ray Long, Donnie Long, Jerry Long, Susan Long and Bob Long, and five great grandchildren.
