Mrs Caroline H Kelly Winsor, the mother of Senator Mulford Winsor and a pioneer homesteader of Yuma Valley, died Monday morning at the home of her daughter [sic], Miss Eleanor Kelly, in Haskell, Oklahoma.
Caroline Kelly Winsor was born in Kentucky 87 years ago. She married Mulford Winsor and moved to Kansas where they and their children lived for many years. In 1892 Mr and Mrs Mulford Winsor, Sr, moved to Arizona and located at Prescott in the northern part of the state. In 1896 Mulford Winsor and Caroline Winsor moved to Yuma where Mulford Winsor, Jr, was the owner and editor of the "Morning Sun," at that time in its infancy.
In 1897 Mr and Mrs Mulford Winsor homesteaded a ranch in the Yuma Valley. They were among the very first, real homesteaders on a real desert.
Several years later Mulford Winsor died and Caroline Kelly Winsor returned to Yuma and lived there until a few years ago when she joined her sister, Eleanor Kelly, in Haskell, Oklahoma. Mrs Winsor was in splendid health until she was injured by a fall last winter, and was bedridden for the last few months of her life. Saturday her condition became serious and Mrs Mulford Winsor left for Oklahoma. Mrs Caroline Winsor died Monday morning.
The arrangements for the funeral have not been made, but the members of the Winsor family in Yuma believe Mrs Caroline will be buried in Oklahoma.
Mrs Caroline Winsor leaves two sons, Walter Winsor, Jr, residing in eastern Arizona, and Senator Mulford Winsor of Yuma, a daughter-in-law, Mrs Mulford, a son-in-law, C M White of Yuma; a sister, Eleanor Kelly in Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Margaret Winsor, at the University of Arizona, Elinor Winsor and Mulford Winsor Jr, the children of Senator and Mrs Mulford Winsor, and Waldo and Harold Whiting, also of this city, and their married sister, Ruth Whiting Stewart, living in Tucson, who has two little children, Mrs Caroline Winsor's great-grandchildren.
The Morning Sun extends its sincere sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
