Mr. George Dameron died suddenly yesterday while sitting in his porch at his home in Amherst county, a few miles from this city. He was for a long time sheriff of the county and was a popular citizen. He was about 60 years old, and it is supposed that heart disease was the cause of his sudden death.

"George H. Dameron was born June 16, 1822 in Amherst county. He married in Amherst county Frances Ann Scott, Nov. 24, 1852.
Issue: Emma R. (b. Aug. 25, 1854 and m. John N. Dameron of Amherst Co.); Charles W. (b. Oct. 26 1856); Anna M.E. (b. May 5, 1858, deceased): George H. (b. Aug. 13, 1860 deceased); Frances S. (b. Aug 25, 1861, m. B.N. Upham and lives in Boston Mass); George P. (b. Aug 30, 1864); Belle F. (b. Feb 12, 1867, deceased); Robert D. (b. July 1, 1869) and Irene B. (b. July 11, 1872).
Frances Ann Scott, wife of Geo. H. Dameron, was born in Amherst Co. March 5, 1826 to Wm. Walter Scott - son of Revolutionary soldier Capt. Wm. Walter Scott - to Amherst early from Cumberland Co., Va. Her mother was Eliza A. Pendleton and her parents died in Amherst county.
Mr. Dameron's father and father-in-law were in the War of 1812. Geo. H. tried twice to enlist as Confederate soldier, but was turned down for poor health. (He was later) called as reservist to defend Charlotsville against Gen. Preston. He had three brothers in Confederate service: Malaciah, Zachariah and Charles Dameron. His wife had four Confederate brothers: Wm. P., Hugh Roy, James P. and Robt. D. Scott. Hugh Roy Scott has been missionary to Africa and was a chaplain.
George Dameron served as captain during the Civil War and was at one time Sheriff of Amherst county."
