OBITUARY:
South Bend News-Times, Mon., Nov. 30, 1914, p. 10:
"Anthony Smogor, 67 years old, proprietor of the Smogor Coal Co., died Monday morning at his home, 811 W. Division st. He had been ill for the past three months, and has been seriously ill since Tuesday. Death was due to pneumonia. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and six children, Father Casimier Smogor, Frank and Vincent, living in Steubenville, Clemens, John, and Pearl living in South Bend; also a foster-son, Joseph, and 14 grandchildren. One brother, Jacob, lives in Europe.
"Mr. Smogor was born in Poland Dec. 26, 1847. On Feb. 22, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Myszka, in Europe. He came to South Bend 32 years ago from Grand Rapids, where he had lived one year.
"Mr. Smogor was a well known resident of this city. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka society, Polish Roman Catholic union of America, and Polish National Alliance of America, lodge No. 83.
"The funeral will be held Thursday morning at St. Hedwige Catholic church. Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery."
