Bert C. Dittemore, 52 years old, one of the most prominent businessmen of Gosport for many years, died Monday evening at his home following a long illness of heart trouble. He was engaged in dry goods and ready-to-wear. For a number of years he also operated a store in Spencer where the Riggs Department store is now located.
Before entering the clothing business, he was a clerk at Gosport for the Pennsylvania railroad for six years. He was a member of the Gosport Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Lions Club and a trustee of the Gosport Methodist Church.
He was born November 12, 1894, a son of the late James M. and Alice (Acord) Dittemore.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Hattie (Burton) Dittemore; two children, Bert Jr., and Bernice, both of Gosport; one brother, Gaylord of Indianappolis; two half brothers, Jess of Greencastle and Burl of Bloomington.
Funeral rites will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock at the Whitaker Funeral Home, the Rev. H. A. Bailiff, minister of the Gosport Methodist Church in charge, and interment will be made in the Gosport cemetery.
In the passing of Mr. Dittemore, the town of Gosport and the county of Owen have lost a good man, and he will be greatly missed.
