Eva May Lewis
Craig - Services were held Tuesday for Eva Lewis, a long-time resident of Northwest Colorado.
Mrs. Lewis, 91, died Friday at the Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 15, 1895 in Clyde, Mich. to Jay & Lillie Mascho.
She married Glenn Lewis on Jan. 30, 1917, at Northville, Mich.
The couple and their two daughters moved to Colorado in 1921. The family traveled by train to Rifle and then by stage and wagon to the Nine Mile area. They lived at the Reese ranch, which later was owned by Paul Jensen.
The Lewis family later moved to Wilson Creek, where they lived for many years. They then sold that ranch and moved to Rangely, where they lived and worked until Glenn Lewis died in 1958.
Eva Lewis then moved back to Wilson Creek and lived in a trailer house close to her daughter. Mrs. Lewis moved to Craig in 1962.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Royal Neighbors.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and caring for her family. She was reknown for her ability to recall the history of Craig, Meeker and Browns Park.
Rev. James McMillan officiated over services for Mrs. Lewis at Grant Mortuary. Organist Elaine DeuPree and vocalist Linda Koucherik performed "God Will Take Care of You," and "How Great Thou Art."
Services concluded at the mortuary. The cremains were interred at the Highland Cemetery in Meeker.
Mrs. Lewis was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, George, who was lost at sea during World War II.
She is survived by her son, Gene Lewis of Craig; three daughters, Josephine White and Lillian Jensen of Craig and Marjorie Forbes of Hamilton; two sisters, Edith Allie of Highland, Mich., and Alta Duncan of Mio, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great, great-grandchildren.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Rebekah Lodge of Craig.
