Jonathan served with the Albany County, New York Militia during the Revolutionary War. Member of the Claverack, NY company, commanded by Captain Hogeboom, 1 May 1767. Pension records indicate the following information: Jonathan Bigsby was made a captain of the Fifth Company of Foot in the Ninth Regiment of the county of Albany, commanded by Colonel Peter Van Ness. His son-in-laws, Abel Whalen and Caleb Clark served in the same unit.


Married Martha Hull, daughter of George Hull, July 4, 1752, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He married, second, May 1,1798, at Nobletown, NY, Elizabeth, born 1762, and living in November 1852, aged ninety years, at Addison, N. Y.


Known children: Lydia (m. Abel Whalen); Sarah (m. Caleb Clark); Daniel (b. May 15, 1757); John (b. May 15, 1757); Aaron Hull (m. Mercy Bagley); Nathaniel; Andrews (Andreas) (m. Priscilla Cleveland); Jonathan (b. 1764); and Moses (b. 1766, m. Eva Schauermann).
