Bessie Marie Dillon Slaven, 96, formerly of Magnolia, Mississippi, and Hood, Virginia, died at Dogwood Village Nursing Home on Monday, September 21, 2009.

She was born November 12, 1912, in Walthall County, Mississippi, one of 15 children, to the late Carl C. Dillon and Dora Ard Dillon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wilton Slaven; a daughter, Louise Slaven Brock; a son, Robert Earl Slaven; three brothers, Otis, Odis, and John Warren Dillon; and five sisters, Ora Dillon, Ara Dillon, Lenora Hughes, Della Stinson and Tina Brumfield.

She is survived by a son, Bobby Slaven, as well as five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin, Truly, Preston and Earl Dillon; and two sisters, Thelma and Hazel.

A graveside service was conducted by the Reverend Richard L. Horton, Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Rose Park-Rapidan Cemetery in Wolftown, Virginia.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shiloh Baptist Association, 14237 Chestnut Ford Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.
