Douglas W. Mapes, 54, of Middletown, OH, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH.
He was born November 7, 1951 in Fremont, OH. Doug was a Vietnam combat veteran serving with the 23rd Infantry Division (American) from 1970-73. He became a truck driver after leaving the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Mapes and Albert and Velma Angel and by two brothers, Steven Angel and Robert Mapes.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Mapes; three daughters, Shannon (Dave)Tolson of Middletown, OH, Roxanne (Joseph) Tn. and Joyce Mapes of Peebles, OH; two sons, Douglas (Mandy) Mapes Jr. of Crane Hill, Al and James Mapes of Peebles, OH; two stepsons, Christian Mays of Middletown, OH and Eric Mays of Fairfield, OH; five brothers, Neal (Roxanne) Angel of Athol, KY, William Angel of Booneville, KY; Donald (Sherri) Angel, Bobby (Heather) Angel and Kenneth (Lisa) Angel all of Middletown, OH; three sisters, Laura (Ronald) Deuser of Middletown, OH, Janice Mapes and Carol Mapes both of Fremont, OH; ten grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Watts Funeral Home in Jackson, KY, conducted by Rev. Randall Amburgy with burial in the Hensley-Angel Cemetery in Athol, KY. Exceptional Color Guard service provided by DAV Post 63 from Hazard, KY.
