NEWCASTLE, Wyo. – Frances J. Gaskill, 85, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at the home of her daughter Erma Owens in Wright. Frances was born July 3, 1924, south of Newcastle in the Morrissey Community, the daughter of Roscoe C. and Mabel (Olson) Austin. She graduated from high school in 1941.

She married Paul Gaskill on Dec. 21, 1941, and they raised their family in the 7-Mile Community in northern Niobrara County, Wyo. She volunteered at Weston County Children's Center for several years. She worked as teacher and cook for 20 years retiring in 1989.

She continued being active in the lives of her family, her friends, and her Christian faith until her death. She was a hardworking and loving mother who enjoyed the outdoors and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters, Paula Sue (Charles) Archibald, Willa Joyce (Daniel) Kruse, Erma Juanita (James) Owens, Mary Jane Nettles, and Patti Rae (Nick) Allguer; 13 grandchildren, William Archibald, Kathy Jo Strange, Kirk Archibald, Scott Archibald, Lynelle Hoskey, Jolene Powell, Dalen Kruse, Dawn Mackenzie, Jason Turner, Allen Nettles, Amber Kingan, Cole Allguer and Kayla Allguer; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Austin; and two sisters, Myra Smallwood and Phyllis Hanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, one son-in-law, and one grandson. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Worden Chapel, with Julia Brist, Lorraine Lerwick and Sandy Pfeifer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
