Lewis C. Atwood was the second son of Orlo and Maria J. (Bonnie) Atwood. He followed his father into the silk-throwing business and was involved in Atwood and Sons Silk Mill in Plymouth, PA. He eventualy owned the mill along with his brother, Dayton. The mill building still stands on east Main Street. The Atwood home stood on the corner next to the mill building.
In the mid-1920's, the textile business in Pennsylvania was declining. Mr. Atwood sold the mill and moved with his widowed daughter and her four sons to St. Petersburg, FL. He and his wife helped raise the four boys who always appreciate his strong influence on their lives.
The families spent each summer at a cabin on North Lake until World War II. After the war, Mr. Atwood purchased a house in Sweet Valley, where he lived with his wife and daughter until his death in 1951.
