Prior to moving to White County, Benjamin Reynolds operated a stage line from Vincennes to Toledo, Ohio. In 1828, distemper broke out amoung his horses and left him almost bankrupt. Benjamin was one of the pioneers of White County, He was one of the first settlers of White County when he came in 1830. He platted and laid out the town of Reynolds, named for him by Governor Willard. He also was largely instrumental in the construction of the Monon and Pennsylvania Railroad through the county. Reynolds built the first commercial building in Reynolds, a hotel. At one time, he was owner of over 15,000 acres in Indiana and Illinios. He was one of the first active jurors in the county. He was a member of the county agricultural society and an excellent stockbreeder. He was one of Big Creek Township's first township officers. He was married twice. His first wife was Julian Ann Coller, who died in 1837. He then married Lydia J. Garner in 1840. Benjamin Reynolds's son Isaac born in 1831 was the first native Caucasian child born in White County. His children attended the first White County Schoolhouse.
