MRS. ETTA MOORE
Mrs. Etta Moore died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harl LaFavre, near Chariton, on Sunday evening, Jan. 19, 1936, at the age of 74 years and 3 days.
Funeral services, conducted by W. A. Purdy, of the Chariton Church of Christ, were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the Dunshee funeral home, and burial was in the Ragtown cemetery.
Etta Law, daughter of Lewis and Cynthia Ann Law, was born near Deputy, Ind., on Jan. 16, 1862. At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to near Hartford, Kans., where she lived three years, then returned to Deputy, Ind., where she grew to womanhood. In 1884 she was converted and united with the Pisgah Methodist church.
On June 26, 1893, she was united in marriage to Ira Andrew Holmes at Madison, Ind. Soon after, on July 4, they came to Iowa and located on a farm near Chariton, where they lived until 1898, when they moved to Chariton where Mr. Holmes passed away on March 2, 1917.
To this union two daughters were born, Leona and Amy. On Dec. 23, 1920, she was married to William H. Moore, who preceded her in death in November of 1928.
On Thursday morning, Jan. 16, her 74th birthday, she was stricken with paralysis and never regained consciousness. All was done that loving hands could do but to no avail, and she passed peacefully away on Sunday evening.
Mrs. Moore was a devoted wife and mother, a splendid neighbor, and her life was filled with kindly deeds.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Leona Ward, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Amy LaFavre, of near Chariton, and one grandchild, Barbara Jean Ward, one brother, George Law, of Deputy, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Portwood, of Franklin, Ind., and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
One brother, Jacob B. Law, passed away in Indiana but a few months ago, on Nov. 1, 1935.
