James Jackson "Jim" Kilgore, age 88 of Mt. Sherman, Arkansas passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper.

The fifth child of Arthur Burl and Julia Victoria (Spencer) Kilgore, was born March 10, 1921 at Mt. Sherman.

Jim was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1941, and while on leave, he married Avo Martha Woodruff on December 25, 1943. After his discharge from the service, he came home to farm in Newton County. Jim and Avo operated a country store on Mt. Sherman for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Manuel James and Dennis Lee Kilgore; four brothers, Herman, Fred, Charles, and Devoe; and a sister, Dovie.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Avo Martha Kilgore of Jasper; his daughter, Patricia Flinn and her husband, Steve of Harrison; daughter-in-law, Darlene Kilgore of Batavia; three grandchildren, Melissa Brown and Chris Kilgore both of Batavia and Chase Smith of Harrison; one step-grandson, Dr. Kevin Flinn of Little Rock; six great-grandchildren, Travis Kilgore, Kalin Nicholson, Bradley, Kilgore, Olivia and Brayden Brown, and Jayda Kilgore.

Visitation was Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Service was Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in the funeral home chapel with Raymond White officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Sherman Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Kilgore, Travis Kilgore, Chase Smith, Justin Brown, Steve Flinn, and Ben Szabrowicz.
