He was highly esteemed in Americus and Sumter County. He moved with his parents from Stewart County in 1840 coming thence from Marion County where his son was born. He enlisted in the war with The Americus Rifles and served in the 9th GA regiment. He fought four years from Manassas to Appomattox, commanding his company in the last battle.
In November 1865, he married Anna Stanford and they had 8 children. Surviving him are H.Egbert Allen, Mrs. Nix and Mrs Taylor. In 1881, his wife died, and after 7 years, he
married Miss Ella J Adams of Talbot County. She died after one year. He became clerk of the Superior court in 1873 and rose to Judge. He was a Mason and a Methodist. He is also listed with area veterans in the Americus Weekly Recorder, Aug. 2. 1889 page 5.
