Born in either Ohio or Virginia about 1825, Samuel's family lived in Ame's Twp, Athen's County, OH during the 1840 census. They then moved to Jerome Twp, Union Ct, OH. Samuel married first Catherine Crook in 1842, and second Persis Ellis in 1849. He served in the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War. By 1870 Samuel and Persis and family moved to Wisconsin. Their last two children were born at Seelyburg, Vernon Ct., WI
