Melvin H. Grantham, 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009.
Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Lakeside Church of God. Pastor Carroll Smith will officiate. Interment: Annetta Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Mel was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Perry, Fla. He traveled to Yuma, Ariz., and at the age of 19 met his wife, Patsy Vernell Walls, at church. They were married six weeks later and would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this month. Mel was a longtime member of Lakeside Church of God.
He originally started a concrete pumping service in California in 1969, but moved to Fort Worth in 1981 and started Central Concrete Pumping. He was a pioneer in the industry and was awarded the American Concrete Pumping Association's Pioneer of the Year Award in 2005.
He was an amateur radio enthusiast and loved to travel the United States in his RV. He was known for his generous heart and was blessed to have many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margie Grantham, and son, David Grantham.
Survivors: Wife, daughter and her husband, granddaughters, grandsons, and great-grandchildren.
