Robert Bane was born in May, 1835 in Virginia. He was the youngest of six sons born to Alexander and Ester Rees Bane.
In January, 1858 he married Martha Goodwin who lived on a neighboring farm.
In the spring of 1858, Robert and Martha left Virginia. They had one horse and Martha rode behind him. They carried a "split bottom" chair with them. They traveled first to Logan County, Illinois and then on to Canton, Lewis County, Missouri, arriving there also in 1858.
They lived in Canton for eight years, where Robert farmed their land. They had three children while living there.
In 1866, they relocated to Richland Township, Morgan County, Missouri. There they had two more children, one a son who died early in life.
Sometime after 1892, their home and all of their belongings burned to the ground and they were left with what they wore and some livestock.
With help from their family, they rebuilt and eventually their youngest daughter and her family moved into the new home with them.
Robert converted and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Otterville, Missouri on December 11, 1877. Robert was ordained and served as Deacon in the church from October 13, 1881 until age rendered him incapable of further service.
After the death of his wife, Martha, Robert continued to live in his home in Richland Township, Morgan County, Missouri, with his daughter and her family.
Robert Bane died February 1, 1911 of influenza. He was seventy-five years of age.
