Born to Pete and Anna Isaac (Unruh) in Greensburg, Kansas, January 3, 1924, second oldest of four children.
He met Marie Baker on April 1, 1945 and they were married at the First Friends Church on August 4, 1946, in Colorado Springs, CO. They moved to Marten's family farm in Greensburg, KS. The farm is still in the family today. They decided to explore the west and moved to Bend, OR in January 1952. They owned and operated "Marten's Auto Repair" for many years, until they retired. In his retirement, Marten pursued his love for woodworking, photography, flowers, and tinkering. Always clever and resourceful, Marten invented and created many contraptions out of scrap material that were useful ways to recycle supplies. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in Central Oregon, and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
He got his first pet, a cat, Sweetie Pie, from the local animal shelter in 2006. She was his furry, steadfast companion, and they moved to Auburn, Washington in 2007, to be near his daughter, Carol Leavell and son-in-law, Tom Leavell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Dean; sister, Marie Peters; brother, David Isaac and wife, Marie.
Marten and Marie are laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Greensburg, KS with their son and Marten's parents.
