OBITUARY - VISALIA TIMES DELTA

December 17, 1929 - September 14, 2009 Al was born in Holly, Texas on December 17, 1929 and passed away in Taft on September 14, 2009. Al moved to Taft in the late 1950s and after a time out of the area came back to Taft in 1976. He was an All American at USC and was a teacher and coach at many schools including, Allan Hancock, Los Angeles City College, San Diego State, and College of the Sequoias. Besides being the Athletic Director at Taft College, he was also the football coach from the mid 1970s through the early 1990s. The Taft football teams Al coached through the years won 15 conference titles, six State Championships, four Potato Bowls, and two National Championships. He was named State Coach of the Year six times. Al also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Funeral services will be held in the Westside Believers Fellowship Church, 101 Hwy 33, on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. for longtime Taft resident, Al Baldock, 79. Burial will follow in the West Side District Cemetery. Following the interment service a reception will be held in the Taft College Gym. His survivors include his wife, Joyce Baldock of Taft; his daughter, Erin Baldock Hopkins of Taft; his two grandsons, Nathaniel Evenson and Jonathan Hopkins both of Taft; his sister, Rovella Bettelyoun of South Dakota; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Albert Bell of California; his niece, Cindy Huff and her husband, Gary of Laguna Hills; and his nephew, Greg Bell of Atascadero. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Al Baldock Scholarship Fund, c/o Taft College, 29 Emmons Park Drive, Taft, CA 93268.
