David Barrett, Captain of the Huron Rangers, War of 1812, 1814, First Military Co. in the Firelands

David was the son of Deacon Eleazer Barrett of Alford, Berkshire, MA and his first wife, Sarah Church. A patriot, his father witnessed the surrender of British General John Burgoyne to the Patriot Army at Saratoga, NY during the Revolution, and served as Deacon of the First Congregational Church of Great Barrington, MA. David was the seventh of eleven children, born August 9, 1773. He removed to Geauga County, Ohio around 1802 and he married in 1805 in OH; he and his wife, Phebe Fowler, daughter of William Fowler and Olive Coan, are listed among the First Families of Ohio. They are on the tax rolls for Burton, Geauga, OH in 1807. They also appear in Avery Twp. (now Milan Twp.), Huron Co. (now Erie Co.), Ohio in 1809/1810.

They had 3 or 4 children. As both Phebe and David died young, their children were raised by other family members in West Bloomfield, NY.
