Funeral services for Leland Currey, 82, of Grand Saline, were held at 10am Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dan Gilliam officiating.
Burial was at Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Currey passed away September 17, 2009, in Grand Saline.
He was born April 6, 1927, in Van Zandt Co to te late John Marvin and Era Lou Shields Currey.
Leland spent all of his life in Van Zandt County. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class in Grand Saline.
He dedicated his life to his family, church family and his community. He once received the UMW Man of the Year award and served on several boards at the church. He was a former member of the Grand Saline Rodeo Association. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Rash and Ritchie Feed Store and Robert Silester's ranch.
He was preceded in death by is parents; one brother, Leon Currey; and two sisters, Eva Heard and Yvonne Whatley.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Delois Currey of Grand Saline; sons, Johnny Currey and wife Jane of Alba, Danny Currey and wife Blair of Grand Saline, David Currey and wife Jennifer of Corsicana; daughter, Dorcie Youngblood and husband Kerry of Grand Saline; daughter-in-law, Sandy Currey of Canton; brother, Thurman Currey and wife Betty of Oceanside, Calif; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
If desired, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 501 N Main St, Grand Saline, Tx 75140.
Visitation was held from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, Sept 18, 2009 at the funeral home.
