Roland "Bud" Newman, 82, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born on April 20, 1924, in Brainerd to Orville and Bertha (Wilkinson) Newman. Bud married Eva Brown on Jan. 12, 1944, in Brainerd, Minn. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Bud was a carman for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He also bartended at Harold's Club and the American Legion. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 255.

He is survived by his wife, Eva, of Baxter; his children, Alan (Sandy) Newman, of Blaine, Cathy (Cliff) Newman, of Blaine, Tim (Sue) Newman, of Circle Pines, Debbie (Wayne) Soens, of Princeton, Mark (Karen) Newman, of Rosemount; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, LaVonne Wutzke, of Brainerd. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tom.

Services will be on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Harold Tongen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 255. Friends may call at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home one hour prior to services.

Arrangements will be with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
