Son of William Emory Wright and Mary Pearce Kite
Married Mary Ann Brockerman, 19 Dec 1833, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Children - Amanda Melvina Wright, John Rudy Wright, William Brockerman Wright, George Washington Wright, Mary Katherine Wright, Hannah Ann Wright, Charles Henry Wright, Abraham Reister Wright, Isaac Kite Wright
History - Abraham and Mary joined the LDS (Mormon) faith in 1841. The family was on the move for several years between Ohio and Pennsylvania as the births of their children tell. Abraham was ordained an Elder in the Church at a Conference in Nauvoo on 1 Apr 1844. The family came west to Utah in the Abraham O. Smoot Pioneer Company of 1856. They made their home in Salt Lake City where Abraham was a freighter, photographer and merchant. He was ill for a time after his arrival in Utah. However in 1858 he set off for Cincinnati and Philadelphia to initiate what would become three freighting expeditions from the Missouri River (Omaha) to Salt Lake City. He used ox teams and wagons and may have transitioned to mules and teamsters freighting goods on a commission basis. There would generally be six to seven families of immigrants traveling with them. These were known as Pioneer Companies and he was the designated Captain. He conducted these trips across the plains annually from 1859-1861, each trip taking about 90 days to complete. A journal kept by a John Durrant on the 1861 expedition clearly point out several examples of his leadership. He held several church leadership positions in Utah including President of the 30th Quorum of Seventies, a block teacher and a Ward Clerk. In 1880 he served a mission to Pennsylvania.
