A Methodist by faith, she was born in Harrisonburg, VA and she grew up in Danville, PA, before moving to Savannah, where she met her husband, and raised her children.
She moved to Blackshear 18 years ago, after her husband transferred to Waycross with CSX Transportation.
An avid horse lover, she was a member of The Okefenokee Trail Riders Association, where she participated, and hosted, many trail rides each year. She also rode her horse in the Nahunta Christmas Parade every year.
She recently retired from Charlton Memorial Hospital, as a medical transcriptionist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin F. Conaway, and her parents, Forrest and Lois Deal Dryden.
Survivors include her daughters, Jan Smith (husband Larry) of Blackshear and Jody Pena (husband Andrew) of Savannah; her son, Michael Conaway of Waycross; two brothers, John Dryden (wife, Charlene) of Anderson, SC and William Dryden (wife, Kathy) of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren, Scott Lawson and Victoria Conaway both of Savannah, and Whitney Counts and Lauren Smith both of Blackshear; several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Visitation for Mrs. Conaway will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 Monday morning at the funeral home.
Graveside services for Mrs. Conaway will be held Monday, November 26, 2012, at 12:00 at the Greenlawn Cemetery.
